Well, there's hardly anything in that amp, that's not made of either aluminium or copper. Well, if not for the black steel bolts and the carbon that is Magura

Sure they're Al, but what should be wrong with SS ?Magura
-
Well, your critics has actually helped me from making stupid mistakes, so a critical comment here and there is nice Magura

Today's thingie: pillars for supporting the load inductor. They still lack a sheet of silicone on the top surface, but then again, they're fresh out from the lathe Magura

Those are for clamping the transformers, note the rubber on the backside. A nice little detail, is the spring washer. I've found them to be a great help in keeping the tension on the transformer over time.I'll post a better pic later, like the one you got today. It was just quick and dirty by cell-phone. If you don't know what it's supposed to show, it doesn't show much Magura

I have played a bit around with the Drek by now, yes you're right, it's hard to adjust, and somewhat sensitive, but mine is still alive Magura This is the forum post # 1000

Have you been using your Drek more than just for the test?Magura

I once saw an episode of Mythbusters, but what is Brainiac?Magura

Love the bikes Stein. I've had a recumbent once, now I stick to fixed gear road bikes and a single speed MTB.Magura:)

I don't have a TV, actually never had one. My parents had a TV, that's about it for me in that aspect.A TV is among the worst "thieves of time". I don't know what it's like exactly in Serbia, but in my neck of the woods, people watch an average of about 3 hours of TV, a day, 7 days a week. I spend maybe an average of 1 hour a day building amps, which leaves another 2 hours a day for fondling the Mrs. Magura

Now I finally got around to finishing the sockets, for the aluminium bolts. They have been on the way for a looooong time Magura

Do you have a TV ? Magura

The plain lock-nut for the transformer mounting hardware, kept giving me bad dreams, so a respectable solution was made in brass today Magura

The odds that it sounds fairly good, are not too bad. I have had a much simpler prototype up running, based on the same approach, which I was quite impressed with. The prototype was pretty much an inductor loaded F3, plus-minus some details. This circuit should beat the pants off the prototype. (I hope )Magura

Welcome Steen, I wondered what you were waiting for ...and thanks. Sound should not be much behind the design Magura

So, this is as far as I got last week (before making the roller-boards). A little paint, and a lot of assembling.Magura

And here you got a pic of the main persons involved in this project, including their significant others Behind: Steenoe and his Mrs.Left to right: Mr. and Mrs. Cviller, Mr. and Mrs. MaguraMagura

The box assembled prior to surface treatment. Seems like I've been lucky so far, everything fits Magura

Now perhaps a foot would be nice, no?To get rid of the transformer, and shielding it as well, I made a hollow foot big enough to contain it. This also allows for an AC inlet and the on/off contactor. So no mains in the box for the amp.Magura

To get the heat from the active devices, to the heatsink assembly, either a lot of metal, or carbon seemed to be the options. At this point it gets to become an issue when talking weight. The 35kg mark has been passed, and the box is neither complete, nor has any electronic component been mounted. So, the solution ended up being carbon. Honeywell makes some real nice stuff for this purpose, which is 100% carbon, but with a fiber structure. This material allows the use as a structural part, which is pretty nifty in this case.Pic shows the parts so far, and a test piece of carbon.Magura
