About RealTime Kernels Early on in Linux audio production, Real-Time kernels were the only way to get low- and no-latency audio for professional audio applications. However, since Linux 2.6, the real-time stack has been part of the Linux kernel, having a kernel patched with a real-time stack is no longer necessary. RealTime Kernels Still Exist However, there continued to be a demand for real-time kernels with a special patch. A patch does exist to enable process to have real-time process access to any process requesting it. This is good for applicance-like applications, such as audio mixers that use Linux (the Behringer X-series mixers and the Allen & Heath iLive series mixers are good examples). For desktop computer use, THIS IS A BAD IDEA. Security Implications All it would take is one malicious process to execute and take advantage of the real-time code to completely lock-out a user from their machine, turning that machine into part of a botnet or other malicious purpose. Real-Time processes have the potential to completely take-over a machine. This is the number one reason Ubuntu does not carry a Real-Time kernel. Low-Latency Kernel The Low-Latency Kernel included in Ubuntu Studio (and available in the Ubuntu repositories) does not allow such malicious code from locking-out a user from their machine. It does contain other optimizations, such as Preempt-RT being enabled in the kernel configuration, to achieve the lowest possible latency for audio and other applications, while keeping the user interface usable. Latency as low as 0.1 millisecond can and has been achieved using this kernel. Summary For desktop computer usage, using a real-time kernel can cause security nightmares. The low-latency kernel included in Ubuntu Studio is completely capable of low- to no- latency while not enabling malicious processes to lock-out a user from their computer.   2. Pitanje je da li se njegov kernel uopšte lošije čuje od RT. A držao sam njegov kernel na raznim mašinama - ne samo za audio. Za neke druge namene (crypto).....Koje nisu gašene godinama. I to radi. Provereno. it's about deterministic performance under load and various conditions.

  9. I taj kernel radi posao... lepo.... za to što je namenjen (i kome je namenjen). Mene lično mrzi da sednem i sam svoj da kompajliram. A i nisam vičan sa tim.....

  13. Ama RTCQS program odvade https://codeberg.org/rtcqs/rtcqs pokazuje i bez RT i sa RT da je RT.....Tako da baja sa AV Linux-om prolazi kao RT a nije RT

  16. Da demistifikujemo. I liquorix i xanmod prolaze verifikaciju za Real Time - a nisu full RT - ako u nazivu nemaju RT Ako imaš podešavanje threadirqs u GRUB to je kernel koji koristi IRQ threading . Običan Kernel tweaked za lowlatency performance. Ono što ja kod sebe na mojoj mašini koristim je 6.1.13-x64v2-rt7-xanmod1
  17. Ne. Nego da ne valja RT ili nije RT. Običan kernel sa nekim uključenim prioritetima za IRQ. Isto što i liquorix bez rt u podnazivu tj. Snake Oil .

  19. To je ok ako je recimo USB na 90 IRQ u RT . To pije vodu. Ali ima razlika između kernela. Probajte sa preempted kernelom to. To je apsolutni RT
  20. Šta me bre briga...ovde se bavim tehničkim problemom - kako je moguće da RT kernel radi na tako malim CPU temperaturama. Daj da podesim to na svim serverima. Da na vazduh rade

  25. Kako bre nije...Oću da vidim šta radi SnakeOil sa RT skinut installer odavde skinuo Ubuntu server 18 i da vidim šta radi - to jest šta ne radi
